In the long run, piracy helps HBO get more subscriptions

This past Wednesday, Jeff Bewkes, the current CEO of Time Warner, had his annual earnings call.

When asked to share his views on the fact that Game of Thrones is probably the most pirated show in the world, he made some rather shocking statements.

The CEO argued that, although he does not encourage the illegal download of music and movies, the fact remains that “Game of Thrones” piracy would surely get HBO more subscriptions in the long run.

“If you go around the world, I think you're right, that 'Game of Thrones' is the most pirated show in the world. Now that's better than an Emmy,” Jeff Bewkes reportedly said.

“Our experience is, it all leads to more penetration, more paying subs and more health for HBO,” he added.

Well then, let us sharpen out pirate hooks and dust off our wooden legs. Season 4 will soon be released, and we wouldn't want to disappoint HBO and Time Warner.
