Game of Thrones: Ascent, the Facebook title based on the hit book and TV series, will involve all sorts of themes, including " scheming and plotting, murders and marriages, or contesting for power," according to the author of the books, George R.R. Martin, who shared the first details about the social game.

We've seen quite a few Game of Thrones interactive experiences in recent times, ranging from already released ones, like Cyanide's Game of Thrones: Genesis or its Game of Thrones RPG, to in-development ones, like the upcoming MMO.

Now, George R.R. Martin, the writer behind the book series, has revealed the first details on Game of Thrones: Ascent, an upcoming Facebook title based on the franchise.

"I'm told the biggest social media game involves running a farm," Martin wrote on his blog, obviously making fun of FarmVille, one of the most popular social games.

"Surely, I thought, there must be something one could do on social media that would be more fun that growing turnips and feeding chickens. Like, say, scheming and plotting, murders and marriages, contesting for power."

As such, Martin and HBO granted the rights for a social game to Disruptor Beam, who's already working hard on the project.

"This will be the first Facebook game based on the TV series and books and, trust me, this game isn’t just going to be another Farmville! George RR Martin is working very closely with Disruptor Beam to ensure the game will deliver an authentic experience," Jon Radoff, CEO of Disruptor Beam, said.

"I can tell you that it will not only be highly story and character-driven, but Game of Thrones Ascent will give you the chance to experience the world from your own perspective and with your own friends."

Game of Thrones: Ascent allows players to create their own character, choose a liege lord of a great house, and then start playing the “game of thrones”.

More details will be made available in the following months, alongside a pre-release beta.
