The Game Developers Choice Awards are especially sought after by game developers because of their prestige. The wards are not given based on sales or on popularity but rather on the opinions of those who are directly involved in the creation of games. And LittleBigPlanet seems to be the big winner of the nomination stage, being in the running for seven of the prizes that will be awarded. The closest competitor Media Molecule has is Braid, the time rewinding platformer created by Number None.

Far Cry 2 from Ubisoft Montreal, Braid from Number None, Fallout 3 by Bethesda Game Studios, Left 4 Dead from Valve and LittleBigPlanet are nominated for the Best Game Design category, while Fable 2 from Lionhead, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Grand Theft Auto IV from Rockstar North are set to battle it out for the Game of the Year award.

Among the nominees for the various categories are big titles, like Dead Space, Spore from Electronic Arts, Metal Gear Solid 4 from Kojima Productions and Gears of War 2 from Epic, but also rather low key releases like World of Goo from 2D Boy, Braid from Number None or Soul Bubbles from Mekensleep.

Meggan Scavio, the director of Game Developers Conference, stated that “The awards given out at the Game Developers Choice Awards are more than just trophies; they are recognition of great work by the developer community. The open peer-based selection process ensures that the people with the final say are the people who work within the craft of game development, and we can't wait to see who they choose. Best of luck to all the teams who have gotten this far!”

The Game Developers Choice Awards will be awarded on March 25 and LittleBigPlanet will probably be the big winner of the night. We'll keep you posted.
