As soon as a new gaming device with a web browser is launched, parents and "puritans" jump all over it and start accusing and pointing fingers. To them, web browsers equal porn, and believe that if they buy a web browsing console for their kids, they will use it to look up porn.
This isn't a new thing as we all know the
PlayStation Pornable
incidents, when people were going crazy, accusing the PSP of tainting their kids. But wfaa.com just found out and they have a story covering this issue in which they interview Laurn Schroeder, mother of first grade kids.
She is a regular mother, but has some strong opinions as regarding the web possibilities of gaming consoles: "They're innocent, and we want to try and keep them that way. It's very upsetting something this popular (a kid game) can go that direction so quickly. he first thing I thought of when I downloaded the Wii browser was also porn".
Schroeder may have a point as some porn websites have reconfigured their screens to fit the Wii and PlayStation 3. Some are even showing the "
Wii Friendly" logo. The first grader's mother also has something to comment on that: "That's why it's so important to read into and do research and background checking before you invest in it. We need to keep them protected from people who want to invade a fun game like the Wii".
