After more than two years have passed since Nvidia introduced its last dual-GPU graphics card, the company is determined to make a comeback into this scene with the soon-to-be-released GTX 590, and Galaxy seems eager to capitalize on this trend as it prepares to launch a multi-GPU solution of its own, based on the GTX 460 graphics core.

The card was uncovered when Expreview posted a few pictures of what seems to be an early prototype of this yet-unnamed dual-GPU solution.

As it can be clearly seen from the images, Galaxy's creation will use a slightly over-sized printed circuit board that houses two GF104 GPUs and is painted white, just as a few other of the company's more exotic solutions.

The two cores are paired together with 2GB of GDDR5 memory (1GB each) and pack 672 CUDA cores, 112 texturing units, 64 ROP units as well as dual 256-bit memory buses.

Power is provided by a 8+2 phase design, 8 phases are used for the GPUs while the remaining 2 power the memory, and the board features a pair of 8-pin PCI Express power plugs.

In addition, Galaxy's graphics card is also equipped with four tantalum capacitors that are placed on the back of the board.

The clock speeds of the two GPUs are still unknown at this moment, but Galaxy used 0.4ns Samsung GDDR5 memory chips, that operate at a maximum of 4000MHz (slightly above the 3.6GHz of the stock GTX 460).

When finalized, the card will be cooled by a tri-fan solution, but no details regarding its availability were disclosed at this time.

In addition to this dual-GPU GTX 460 graphics card, Galaxy is also working on developing a dual-core GeForce GTX 560 Ti solution, but no other details are available right now.
