Samsung Galaxy Tab, the first tablet PC that the South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics brought to the market with Google's Android operating system on board, is set to start arriving in Rogers' stores around Canada as soon as today, the wireless carrier announced officially.

According to the company, the new device will be available for purchase on its airwaves with a price tag of $539.99 upon the signing of a three-year contract agreement on select mobile Internet data plans.

The new Android tablet PC should offer the carrier's users the possibility to enjoy a nice range of Internet browsing and multimedia capabilities, while also enjoying the Android 2.2 Froyo OS pre-loaded on the slate, with support for Flash Player 10.1.

“There’s no question that tablets are transforming the way we live, work and play. From sending email to editing documents to watching video and mobile web browsing, tablets are growing in popularity among Canadians,” the carrier notes on its RedBoard.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab arrives on shelves with a vivid 7-inch touch screen display, while being powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird application processor.

Moreover, the slate offers support for microSD memory cards for expanding the available storage space, as well as for GPS navigation and more.

Samsung packed the tablet PC with two cameras, a 3.2MP one on the back, complemented by a 1.3MP one on the front for video chat.

“With the Android 2.2 OS, you also have access to integrated Google Mobile services and thousands of apps on the Android Market,” the wireless carrier also notes. Among these services, we can count Search, Gmail, Maps, or YouTube.
