Later this week, a new Android-based tablet PC will be put up for sale in the United States, namely the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, the model that packs only support for WiFi connections.
The tablet PC is set to become available for purchase via some Best Buy stores starting with September 22nd, and is already available for pre-order at the retailer.
However, it seems that not all Best Buy stores will put the new
tablet PC up for sale on that day, and that others will have it on shelves only starting with September 25th.
Apparently, the first Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi units have already started to arrive in stores at Best Buy, which show that the company is making the final preparations for the release.
Users interested in the new device can find two models put up for sale later this week, differentiated by the amount of internal memory they include.
The retailer got them on pre-order with price tags set at $469.99 for the 16GB model, and at $569.99 for the 32GB model.
The rest of the specifications of the two models are the same, starting with the 8.9" WXGA TFT display that can deliver a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, and going all the way to the fast Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core application processor, which has each core clocked in at 1GHz.
The tablet PC also sports a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, complemented by a 2MP camera on the front, for video calling.
In addition to the aforementioned WiFi connectivity, the tablet PC also comes with Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities, as well as with a built-in GPS receiver, and with the usual set of sensors.
The tablet PC runs under Google's Android 3.1 operating system, and features support for a wide range of Google Mobile Services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.
