Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the thinnest tablet PC in the world at the moment, is expected to become available for purchase in the United States in June via various retailers around the country, and should be released on shelves at Sprint too later in summer.

Today, Samsung confirmed the availability of the new device through the Best Buy Union Square store in New York City on June 8, with pre-order availability online and in-store starting that day.

On June 17th, the new tablet PC would be put on sale through other retailers around the country, the company announced, adding that wireless carrier Sprint should make the Galaxy Tab 10.1 available on its airwaves later this summer.

Two flavors of Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be launched on June 8, both with WiFi connectivity capabilities, namely a 32GB version, priced at $599, and a 16GB version, which would be released for $499.

On June 17th, the device would be released around the country in stores at Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics, Amazon.com, Micro Center, Tiger Direct and Newegg.

The tablet PC runs under Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system, providing users with fast and smooth transitions between different applications, as well as with an intuitive navigation, and with support for a wide range of USB accessories, external keyboards, joysticks and gamepads.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen display that can deliver a WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution, and packs a dual-core 1GHz application processor inside.

The tablet measures only 8.6 millimeters thick, and weighs in at 1.25 pounds (565 grams). Its features list includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity, DLNA, 3 megapixel camera on the back, 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling, and the aforementioned internal memory.

It also comes pre-loaded with the full suite of Google Mobile Services, such as Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps, and Google Talk, and offers access to the Android Market for downloading applications.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 3 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera providing smooth video chat capabilities and seamless 1080p HD video playback. High quality speakers are positioned on the right and left sides of the device for a rich, deep audio experience,” Samsung explains.
