South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has just confirmed that its high-end Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet PC would arrive on shelves with Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system on board.

The device should arrive on shelves in a matter of weeks, and Samsung would have it updated to the latest flavor of the mobile OS right from the start, it seems.

In a recent post on its Facebook page (via BGR), the mobile phone maker notes that the tablet will ship with updated software: “The original had 3.0 but now it will be with Android 3.1.”

Moreover, the company made the necessary changes on its website as well, where the tablet PC is now listed as running under the new platform flavor.

“This lightweight, premium tablet comes with Android 3.1 Honeycomb and great Google services. It can even access Adobe Flash Player compatible content and shoot 720p HD video, making you wonder how you ever lived without it,” the company notes.

The tablet PC was unveiled during the CTIA Wireless 2011 conference as the slimmest tablet PC in the world, equaled only by the Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Boasting a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display, the device would offer a premium experience to all users, the company notes.

“The 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Tab is the perfect ally in your quest to do everything faster, easier and better. Surf the web at blistering speeds, multitask like a ninja or watch movies in superior HD resolution (1280x800),” Samsung states.

The specifications list of Galaxy Tab 10.1 would include a 1 GHz Dual Core processor, complemented by Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity options, and the option of 16GB or 32GB of internal memory.

The tablet PC also comes with a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for video recording, complemented by a 2-megapixel camera on the front, for video calling.

The Android-based device would also offer support for a series of Google Mobile services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.
