South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung might pack its upcoming Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 smartphones with a series of improved Air View features, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the company has partnered with Synaptics for that, and will include a touch controller with improved hovering detection inside the upcoming devices.

Moreover, a recent article on ETNews unveils that the new touch chip will also provide passive pen writing functions.

Reportedly, the new product will arrive with a powerful hovering function that allows it to deliver better detection range, meaning that users won’t necessarily have to get the pen very close to the screen to be recognized.

At the same time, Samsung is said to plan on improving the usability of Air Gesture and Air View functions on Galaxy S4.

According to the aforementioned source, the improved functions of passive pen will allow the touch panel to recognize a passive pen point measuring 2.5pi, thus ensuring more elaborate writing.

What’s more important, Synaptics is said to have lowered the manufacturing cost for the new product, as it will be built in a single layer structure.

Thus, the company will offer not only a wider range of features with the new touch screen panel, but will also improve device usability and consumer convenience, it seems.

There’s no telling on what improvements the new touch controller will bring along when it comes to the yet unannounced Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, but it might not be too long before Samsung officially announces details on the matter.

For the time being, however, no confirmation on the company’s plans on the matter has been provided as of now, so we’ll take the above with a grain of salt.

However, as SamMobile notes, the South Korean vendor has been constantly enhancing the gesture features of its high-end smartphones over the past few years, and chances are that it will do the same with Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4.
