Galaxy S5, the latest flagship Android-based handset from South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung, appears to have managed to attract quite a lot of users to its side in the first week of availability, already accounting for 0.7 percent of all Android smartphones out there.

The info comes from a Localytics report, which analyzed the adoption rate of Galaxy S5 between April 11 and April 18.

Said report also unveils that the new handset has seen the most traction in the United States. Galaxy S5 units sold in this country are said to account for 64 percent of all sales of the device.

Moreover, Localytics notes that 23 percent of all Galaxy S5 handsets were sold in Europe, and that 13 percent were sold in the rest of the world.

For comparison, 51 percent of all Galaxy S4 sales at the moment are made in the United States, 28 percent of them in Europe, and 21 percent in the remaining countries.

Sales numbers for Galaxy S5 are certainly more than impressive, especially since the phone was released only in about 125 markets on April 11. In Europe, for example, many countries have yet to receive it.

Localytics also compared the growth of Galaxy S5 with that of Apple’s iPhone 5s, showing that the former is enjoying much higher sales.

Apple’s device is said to have grabbed 1.1 percent of the iOS market in the first week of availability, but sales of iPhone handsets are far lower than those of Android devices, which means that Galaxy S5 has indeed sold much better.

“It’s important to note that each percentage is comprised of the total global smartphone platform at the time of their release,” Localytics’ Dave Hoch notes.

He also explains that the 0.4 percent difference in adoption between Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 5s might come from the fact that the competition in the Android segment of the market is a fierce one.

Whereas Apple releases the new flagship iPhone model each year, and users know which version is the newest, most sophisticated, things are different when it comes to Android, as people can choose from a variety of top level devices.

What remains to be seen is how Galaxy S5’s adoption will evolve once the phone is released in more markets out there.

One thing that should be noted here, however, is the fact that Samsung hasn’t unveiled sales numbers on the new flagship model, despite the fact that it has been on shelves for over 10 days now.
