One of the nicest Android-powered smartphones available on the market today is, undoubtedly, the Samsung Galaxy S, which already proved highly popular around the world. So popular, it seems that Samsung decided to make it available via more carriers, and launched the Samsung Showcase for Cellular South in the United States.

The new Samsung Showcase (SCH-i500) is not the Samsung Galaxy S that I9000 that landed at AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon, but is the same device as the Samsung Mesmerize that was announced as being headed for US Cellular's network.

According to Samsung, the new smartphone is expected to deliver a fully integrated entertainment, messaging and social networking experience to its users, who will enjoy the phone's large 4-inch Super AMOLED display.

“The Samsung Showcase smartphone coming soon to Cellular South customers is a premium Android 2.1 device equipped with Samsung’s Galaxy S class of features,” said Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile.

“The Galaxy S series of smartphones offers users superior features, including a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird Application Processor, Samsung’s Super AMOLED touch screen technology, along with entertainment, messaging and social networking applications.”

The features list of the new device includes support of Google Mobile Services like Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Android Market and more, along with enhanced support for social networking sites.

According to the wireless carrier, the new device should land on its airwaves with a wide range of applications pre-loaded on it, including two Cellular South Original apps – Text CS and Discover Apps.

Through them, users would receive access to various info on their accounts, as well as on applications that they might use to enhance the experience they receive from the handset.

A third app would also be included on the new phone, Barcode Scanner, through which one would be able to easily scan barcodes with the device, or read QR (or Quick Response) data-matrix codes.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the benefits of one of the world’s most advanced Android-powered smartphones to our customers,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for Cellular South.

“With its superior touchscreen technology, super fast processor and integrated social networking, the Samsung Showcase offers one of the best Android experiences available today.”

The specs list of the new device also includes a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird Application Processor, virtual QWERTY keyboard, DLNA, 5.0MP camera with HD video recording, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bloetooth 3.0, or support for 32 GB of storage via microSD cards.

The new Android-based Samsung Showcase should arrive at Cellular South in time for the holiday season.
