Should become one of the hottest Android phones on the market

Samsung's Galaxy S Android-based mobile phone is slowly becoming one of the hottest handsets on the Korean market. Launched in late June, the device has appealed to a wide range of users, and managed to top 100,000 units sold during the first six days of availability alone. Moreover, it seems that the phone maintained momentum, and that iPhone's supremacy on the Korean market is in danger.

The high-end Samsung Galaxy S was reportedly sold in more than 300,000 units in Korea in only 19 days after its official release. The handset is available in the country on the airwaves of SK Telecom, and seems set to prove a real winner. Samsung launched it in other markets around the world too, but did not comment on the sales figures outside Korea.

If Galaxy S is considered a highly appealing Android-based smartphone at the moment, then it is about to become even more appealing next month, when Samsung should upgrade the operating system it is running under to Android 2.2 Froyo. It seems that only the Korean version of Galaxy S would be slated for a software update.

According to a recent post on Samsung Hub, an official from the mobile phone maker already confirmed that the handset is slated for an Android update in early August. Moreover, it seems that Samsung's user interface should also be included in the package, with all of its popular items, including TouchWiz 3.0, Social Hub, and more.

Unfortunately, the company did not unveil info on its plans for updating the Galaxy S in other markets as well, though it is expected to do so in the near future. With Galaxy S set to make an appearance in the United States in about two days from now, when T-Mobile USA would launch it as the Samsung Vibrant, one should expect for the handset vendor to deliver the Android 2.2 update to more markets soon after releasing it to Korean users.
