Galaxy S II, the flagship smartphone that South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung brought to the market about a month ago, managed to sell over 1 million units on the homeland market.

This makes the Galaxy S II the fastest selling smartphone in Samsung's offering, as it left behind last year's high-end Galaxy S handset, which sold 1 million units within 70 days.

The mobile phone maker already confirmed the fact that Galaxy S II topped the 1 million sold units mark, on supply basis.

Galaxy S II arrived in South Korea on April 29th, and was made available via all major wireless carriers in the country.

The handset was meant to prove as popular as it did since the pre-ordering period, when it managed to break down expectations with great numbers.

The first 100,000 Galaxy S II units were sold in South Korea in the first 3 days, a number that doubled in eight days, and doubled again in 14 days.

Samsung says it managed to sell 500,000 Galaxy S II units in 18 days after launch, while being capable of reaching the 1 million mark in 30 days.

As stated above, the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone is available through all major wireless carriers in the country, including SK Telecom, KT and LG U+.

What's also interesting to note it that the Samsung Galaxy S II also managed to outsell the Apple iPhone in a series of markets around the world, further proving that it should be a highly popular smartphone.

The handset sports a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, along with a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card for additional storage space.

The Samsung Galaxy S II runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and offers support for a wide range of services from the company. It also packs HSPA+, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as GPS receiver.
