Samsung's latest flagship Android-based smartphone is topping the sales charts in the company's home land market, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the company managed to sell a number of over 3.5 million Galaxy S II units in the country since the phone's official launch.

Last month, the company was said to have managed to sell over 3 million units in the local market since launch, and it seems that they added half a million more into the mix.

For the time being, the mobile phone maker did not offer an official confirmation on the sales figure for Galaxy S II, but MK News claims that various telecoms industry sources in the country have already confirmed that.

Samsung is the dominant mobile phone maker in South Korea, and is said to account for over 50 percent of the smartphone segment in the country.

However, the Galaxy S II has helped the company gain some more share of the local market during the past two months or so. Sales for the device were impressive, with over 2 million units moved in the first 73 days of availability.

Galaxy S II's predecessor managed to top 3 million sold units in about a year, which makes the new device the fastest selling Android smartphone from the company on the South Korean market.

Moreover, sales of Galaxy S II shadowed the performance of Apple's iPhone, which certainly means a lot for the handset vendor, since it is involved in a continuous legal dispute with the Mac maker.

Galaxy S II is available for purchase in various other markets around the world as well, and has just emerged on shelves at Sprint in the United States (it should arrive on the airwaves of AT&T and T-Mobile in the country as well).

The launch in the United States will help Samsung reach new milestones in sales of this device and will also help it gain more market share in its quest to become the dominant handset vendor in the world.
