Rumor had it that Samsung Galaxy S II HD might be slated for a UK release sometime in the first half of the year. The smartphone is already available for purchase in South Korea and will soon make its debut in the United States as well via AT&T.
However, the folks over at Recombu have been told by Samsung’s officials that the Galaxy S II HD will not be launched in the UK for the moment. It appears that the company has no plans for releasing the enhanced version of the popular Galaxy S II in a European country.
The reasons behind Samsung’s decision are still unclear, but it may have something to do with the next month’s Mobile World Congress trade fair.
The Korean handset maker plans to announce more Android and Windows Phone devices, as well as the first phone to run Tizen operating system, thus it wants all the attention of the media focused on its new lineup of smartphones.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung announces a device similar with the Galaxy S II HD, especially designed for the European version.
Samsung Galaxy S II HD is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, but there’s no word on an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade anytime soon, though the device is among the top-tier Samsung smartphones available in the market.
The main attraction of the phone is the amazing 4.65-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that supports 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display against scratches and scrapes.
Equipped with a powerful dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit, the smartphone is far superior to the standard Galaxy S II model.
In addition, the Galaxy S II HD features a bigger 1850 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 320 hours of standby time or up to 13 hours of talk time (6 hours in 3G mode).
