Canadian wireless carrier Rogers is set to launch a new Android-based mobile phone on its airwaves in before the end of the month, namely the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, and some more info on the matter, emerged.

The wireless carrier already put the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate on a pre-order status on its website, with a price tag of $149.99 attached to it, upon the signing of a three-year contract agreement.

However, in case there are some interested in having the device with no service commitment included into the equation, they would have to pay $549.99 for the device.

The new device is one of the most appealing Android-based handsets on the market today, already available for purchase in the US via all four major carriers in the country, as well as on other markets around the world.

“The Galaxy S Captivate features the best mobile screen in the world today,” the wireless carrier notes on its website about its version of Galaxy S.

“View all your multimedia in astonishing quality, surf the mobile web with breathtaking ease and view and record HD quality video from the 5.0 MP camera and video recorder. The Captivate also features Social Hub, which lets you manage all your social networks in one place.”

While Samsung Galaxy S Captivate might seem appealing at the moment, it would certainly look like a great option when updated to the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system in early 2011, as Rogers confirmed via its redboard.

“We expect an update to OS 2.2 to be available early 2011,” the carrier notes, while assuring users that the phone would arrive on its airwaves free of any GPS-related issues that were spotted on the US flavors.

“Our version of the Captivate has been optimized for overall GPS/navigation performance and has been extensively tested,” the company notes.

The pre-order offer Rogers has put in place for its Galaxy S Captivate expires on October 20th, which means that the device might hit shelves as soon as the next day, October 21st.

Since the release date is close, more info on the matter should become available in the near future, so keep an eye on this space to learn the news.
