Info on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has already leaked online, but we’re still confused about the camera that the South Korean company will include in its next flagship smartphone.

There have been rumors that the phablet might pack a 12 or 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, but according to the latest hearsay, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will indeed come with a much better 16-megapixel photo snapper.

Obviously, it’s not only the number of megapixels that counts when you want high-quality pictures, which is why Samsung plans to improve the software and camera components that will be included in the Galaxy Note 4.

The folks over at SamMobile have recently obtained in-depth details on Galaxy Note 4’s 16-megapixel camera, before the phablet could be officially introduced.

According to them, the Galaxy Note 4’s camera will pack a Sony IMX240 sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization). As a direct result, users will be able to capture UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) videos at 30fps.

This is the same camera sensor that Samsung used into Galaxy S5 LTE-A smartphone that’s now available for purchase only in South Korea.

Aside from OIS, Samsung plans to add several new camera modes, but also some new features and technologies. One the new technologies that will be part of Galaxy Note 4’s camera is called Side Touch, which is basically a touch button or a sensor that’s built on the right or left side of the phone where the dedicated camera key should be placed.

Thanks to this new feature, Galaxy Note 4 users will be able to take pictures by simply tapping on that spot. The bad news is that for the time being there are some limitations in using this technology, as you won’t be able to take pictures in Portrait and Easy Mode, or while capturing a video.

Samsung has also reportedly created a new gesture that would allow user to open the camera while the screen is off. The only thing you need to do is tap the screen with two fingers and swipe them apart.

Also, four new camera modes that haven’t been included in any other Samsung smartphone will make an appearance in the Galaxy Note 4: Wide Selfie, Selfie, Selfie Alarm and Create A GIF File.

Here are some details on each of these new modes. With the Wide Selfie mode users will be able to capture wide-angle selfie shots so more people will appear in pictures taken with this new feature.

The Selfie mode allows users to take selfies without having to touch the camera button, so you just need to smile or wink. Then there’s the Selfie Alarm mode which will automatically detect and focus on one’s face when they take selfies. Last but not least, the Create A GIF File does just that by taking pictures continuously.

It’s also worth mentioning that previous rumors suggesting that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 might come packed with a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera were accurate. The secondary camera will be able to capture videos in WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, but other details in regard to the technology are still a mystery.

One last piece of information revealed by SamMobile’s reports concerns the Galaxy Note 4 camera UI, which is said to look much the same as the Samsung Galaxy S5’s, so there are no surprises here.
