The update should arrive on all devices by April 14

Owners of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone on the network of Australian wireless carrier Vodafone will be able to upgrade their handsets to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system starting April 8, the company has officially confirmed.

This should come as great news for users, especially since the update was said earlier this month to have been cancelled and to never arrive on the smartphone.

In a blog post published today, however, the wireless carrier explains that the companies involved in this have revised their plans for the update, and that it will start rolling it out as soon as the next week.

“But seeing how much you loved their phone and the amount of support you'd shown them in the past (and the present), Samsung and Google got together and decided that, in the best interest of its customers (that'd be you lot), they'd release the update anyway,” the operator says.

“That's right, the 4.3 Jelly Bean update has been uncancelled and will be rolling out from April 8th, 2014! And in the interest of being as transparent as we can, we wanted you to be the first to know.”

According to Vodafone, the update should be available for all handsets by April 14, provided that the roll out process goes according to plan, of course.

The carrier also notes that the new release will be delivered to users over the air, and that it will be free of charge, which means that you’ll be able to download and install it without seeing the download eating out your monthly data allowance.

“The update is available free of charge and won't count toward your data allowance if you download it over 3G/4G. If downloaded while roaming, applicable data rates will apply,” the wireless carrier notes.

The new software release will arrive on Galaxy Nexus devices as build number JWR66Y.I9250TDVMK1, weighing around 190MB.

The wireless carrier also explains that the update will be downloaded silently in the background, and that users will be prompted to install it as soon as it has landed on the phone.

Before kicking off the update process, however, users should make sure that the battery inside their devices has been charged at least at 50 percent, so that it won’t run out of juice. Keeping the phone plugged in while updating is also a great idea.

Moreover, users are advised to back up all data on the smartphone before updating, so as to make sure that not important files, photos or videos are lost. More on the matter can be found on Vodafone Australia’s support website.
