Given the ongoing financial situation and the fact that PC users are taking a higher interest in lower-cost solutions, one of Galaxy's latest graphics cards seems like an adequate product for the current market. Part of the company's extensive range of GeForce graphics cards, the low-power 9600GT is designed for HTPC enthusiasts and is based on NVIDIA's 9600GT Green Edition GPU. Unlike other GeForce 9600GT graphics cards, the new one doesn't require an external 6-pin power connector.

According to the details made available on vr-zone, the Galaxy GeForce 9600GT comes as a low-profile, low-power solution designed for smaller computer systems, such as HTPCs. This card uses an 8-layer PCB, which measures 203.2mm in length and 69.6mm in height. As far as cooling is concerned, the card is equipped with a single slot, copper solution that can enable it to easily fit inside an HTPC chassis.

Performance-wise the card's GPU is clocked at 600MHz and is coupled with 512MB of GDDR3 memory that is designed to work at 900 (1800) MHz on a 256-bit wide memory bus. Designed for HTPCs, the card offers an interesting choice of connectivity options, including DVI and HDMI. This should enable HTPC enthusiasts to take full advantage of the card's performance while it is connected to a high-resolution monitor or LCD TV.

The graphics maker has even provided some performance figures, which set the new product on par with standard GeForce 9600GT graphics cards. However, with a reduction of 0.1V of the VGPU, its GPU core TPD is reduced significantly, a noteworthy feature for a card that is meant to provide performance inside a lower form factor chassis.

Unfortunately, we have no word on the pricing of the card, but a model that is similar to this one is available for around US $120, with an S-Video Out connector, instead of the HDMI. Also, this model has a higher GPU core speed.
