Stars telling you the time

Clock design has evolved quite a bit during the last centuries and these time-keeping gadgets have undergone a lot of changes since their birth. These days, we can choose from innumerable clock designs, from those suitable for your new-born baby's room to the high-end, luxury ones and, of course, passing through all the funny or sober models destined for your kitchen, office, or even bathroom. The diversity of the available models is so great that it is hard to believe that one could be searching for a certain type of clock and not be able to find something suitable. The Galaxy, a creation of designer Kay Yu, is one more entry in the ranks of clocks that look very good and at the same time bring forth something new and cool.

This clock has gotten its name from the simple fact that it looks like a round window opening towards the depth of space: a lenticular glass object filled with bright stars, neatly contrasting with the dark and almost void background.

One could easily mistake the Galaxy for a nifty star-themed decorative object, if judging upon a quick look. Yet, if you'll examine the Galaxy with more inquisitive eyes, you'll notice that two of the many stars under the glass cover are brighter and bigger... and they move. Indeed, behind the black background of the Galaxy clock, two LEDs are revolving as if on their cosmic orbits and they are telling you the time.

The biggest and brightest star is revolving closer to the center of the circle and it will tell you the hour, while the second moving light has a wider orbit and will indicate the minutes. Now, take a look at the attached pictures and you'll see the way these stars are telling you the (almost) exact time.

Since Kay Yu's Galaxy is more of a fashionable and decorative piece of time-keeping machinery than a precise time-measurement tool, we'd advise you to use a more reliable watch if perfect timing is needed. Stars may be beautiful, but they can also be deceiving, if you have a train or flight to catch.

The overall idea looks awesome and we'd definitely like to see it in stores around the world. In the end, we must add a very poetic description written by the very designer of the Galaxy clock:

An array of stars A smiling face Limited time and unlimited space Looking up at sky to fall sleep every night Face with her brilliant smile every morning Mysterious, profound Black beauty Make us indulge in infinite reveries.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
