Galaga REMIX for iPhone Brings Dual Fighter Power-Ups

Casual games maker Namco Networks has announced Galaga REMIX for iPhone and iPod touch as available in the App Store for $5.99. Players are tasked with controlling a fighter ship, shooting missiles to destroy incoming enemy aliens in a facelifted version of the classic stage-based shooter. Best of all, Galaga REMIX offers both the original 1980’s arcade game, Galaga, and an enhanced Remix version.

As far as the latter is concerned, players will get to do boss fights, receive power-ups and check out background images that illustrate the journey from the Earth to the Galaga system. From the iTunes App Store, the game's official description goes a bit like this:

Shoot your fighter’s missiles to blow away waves of incoming enemy aliens in this classic stage-based shooter. Gameplay is very intuitive. It’s easy to pick-up and play! Rediscover Galaga’s trademark “dual-fighter” power-up system, in which shooting ability is enhanced by rescuing captured fighters. This high-risk, high-reward feature has thrilled generations of players. Test your abilities with the interleaved “challenging stages.”

According to Namco Networks, the game offers three control modes. Using the arrow keys and slider bar, players move their fighter, while accelerometer-based controls (tilt) are used to move the ship.

“Galaga Remix offers the classic game play from the original while giving players an option to enjoy more iPhone-specific features and game play,” said Scott Rubin, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Namco Networks. “Galaga Remix is another example of Namco updating a fan favorite to utilize the capabilities of Apple’s devices, while delivering the experience fans expect.”

Galaga REMIX main features include:

- Six unique boss battles
- Enhanced fighter unification system with nine power-up types
- All new, Free Play mode lets players choose from previously-cleared stages
- Updated fan-favorite “dual-fighter” mode in which players purposely get captured by the enemy's tractor beam and then rescue the captured fighter for a power up.

Galaga REMIX is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch and requires 2.2.1 Software Update.
