Those who thought Palit's newest video board was a bit overpowered probably would not have expected a video card just like it to come out at the same time, but the fact is that a second beast did get launched just a short time ago.

Turning things up to eleven basically means taking something that is already high up according to a certain set of criteria and push it even higher.

On the hardware market, this corresponds, one might say, to customizing a piece of hardware and give it even greater capabilities that those considered top-tier.

Super-clocked, so to speak, memory kits, CPUs and graphics cards are just a few of the things that qualify.

Not long ago, Palit gave this very sort of boost to the currently strongest single-GPU graphics card, that being NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580.

Now, Gainward mirrored its parent company's maneuver and issued a press release in which it details the GeForce GTX 580 Phantom.

This is the second Phantom that made it in the news today, the other being a GTX 570 that has started to actually sell in Europe.

Regardless, the new top-grade GF110-based GTX 580 has 3 GB of GDDR5, complemented by a memory bandwidth of 384 bits.

The GPU has a clock frequency of 783 MHz, while the shaders (512 CUDA cores) and the massive VRAM itself work at 1,566 MHz and 4,020 MHz, respectively.

Other specifications include the obvious DirectX 11 support and multiple video outputs (dual-DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort).

Finally, the cooling module has a copper base, six heatpipes, 44 aluminum fins and three 80mm PWM fans.

All in all, this is the same 40nm-based ultra-high end graphics controller that can handle any game or application at maximum settings, only made better.

Unfortunately, as was the case with the other 3 GB beast, Gainward gave no sort of pricing details.
