Since she was shot in the head two years ago, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has amazed the world with her strength, determination and sure, but slow, recovery. She’s scheduled to make a rare public appearance for an interview with Diane Sawyer.

Sawyer is the only reporter Giffords has spoken to since the tragedy.

Her and husband Mark Kelly’s interview will first air tomorrow, January 8, 2013.

“Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly will speak exclusively to ‘ABC World News’ anchor Diane Sawyer about an important new initiative they are launching,” ABC News confirms.

“The interview will air January 8, 2012 on ‘World News with Diane Sawyer’ – two years to the day after Giffords was shot in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. The interview will also be featured on ‘Good Morning America,’ ‘Nightline,’ as well as ABCNews.com, Newsmakers on Yahoo!, ABC News Radio, and ABC’s local affiliates,” the same media outlet says.

Since the shooting, Giffords has been very vocal about gun control. Just recently, she’s met with the families of the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting.
