Actress is “a joke in the fashion community,” says insider

Earlier this year, when Vanity Fair put out its annual Young Hollywood issue, “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe was notably absent, despite being the young actress to generate the most hype for the past year. After the so-called VF diss, another magazine is turning its back on the star: fashion bible Vogue magazine, with insiders saying for PopEater that Sidibe is simply too fat to be featured in the magazine.

Apparently, there was some talk to have Sidibe in Vogue in one of the upcoming issues, which would have made a lot of sense given she’s being hailed as the ideal example for all plus-size women out there. In response to these rumors, one insider admittedly well familiar with what goes on at Anna Wintour’s magazine says for PopEater that it’s simply not going to happen: to put it as straightforward as possible, Gabby is too fat for the fashion bible.

“Even with all of the fame and Oscar buzz ‘Precious’ got this past year, that’s still not enough to land star Gabourey Sidibe on the pages of Vogue magazine. According to my sources, Miss Sidibe’s weight is what’s keeping her out of Anna Wintour’s publication, where being rail-thin is a necessity. Sources tell me that the editors of Vogue magazine rejected the idea of letting Oscar nominee Gabby Sidibe grace its fashionable pages because of her size. ‘She’s a joke in the fashion community. What she wore on the red carpet at the Academy Awards wasn’t a dress, it was a tent,’ one nasty little fashion queen (who I shall not be talking with again) told me,” PopEater writes.

“‘Vogue is venue where designers debut their best new pieces. All of which are one of a kind and sample size. It would be impossible to get a regular-sized girl in those clothes, let alone Gabby,’ a less acid-tongued fashion source explained. A spokesperson for Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who after a trip to Minnesota said, ‘I can only kindly describe most of the people that I saw as little houses,’ didn’t return calls by deadline,” the glossy e-zine further explains.

Of course, this is not the first time that the actress’ weight makes headlines. A while back, radio host Howard Stern went on air to say that, instead of encouraging her in any way, the industry should force her to lose weight because she was dangerously overweight and would undoubtedly have severe health issues further on. Jessica Simpson, herself not a stranger to this type of controversy, responded to Stern’s bitter attack by saying the industry is doing what it should be doing, namely focus on Gabby’s talent and that alone.
