The Entertainment Software Association has announced that Gabe Newell, the founder and current leader of Valve, would be named the Champion Honoree at the upcoming Nite to Unite event.

The event is in its fifteenth year and is charity-oriented, with one prominent figure from the gaming industry chosen each year for their contribution.

Previous inductees included figures like George Lucas and Blizzard president Mike Morhaime.

Mike Gallagher, who is the president of the Entertainment Software Association, has stated, “He has brought that same tenacity to working with schools and students, expanding access to digital learning while demonstrating that a commitment to positive social impact and leadership in business go hand-in-hand.”

Nite to Unite is set to take place on October 18 in San Francisco.

All the money obtained from the event, which charges no less than $750 (€581) per person, will be given to the Entertainment Software Association Foundation and then used for special events.
