Yes, the GTX 280 and GTX 260 cards are out, and a considerable number of users are wondering whether to upgrade or not. Although only three days have passed since NVIDIA officially launched the new desktop graphics cards, people are already claiming the GTX 280 to be the fastest on the market, or so at least until AMD rolls out its upcoming RV770-based lineup. However, if you are looking to acquire a system built using NVIDIA's latest desktop graphics cards, maybe Alienware's Area-51 is the way to go.

As some of you know, Alienware is one of the
highest rated high-performance computer systems manufacturers. Its Area-51 family of desktop computers has scored pretty impressive benchmark results in a number of test performed worldwide. Therefore, the fact that Alienware is now allowing its users to benefit from the latest in high-performance graphics power should not take anyone by surprise. The system maker is also the first to announce GTX 280 availability for its desktop computers.

"Alienware has always and will always equip our award-winning desktops with only the most advanced components available," says Marc Diana, Product Marketing Manager for Alienware. "That's why we're thrilled to offer the Area-51 family of desktops with the GeForce GTX 280 graphics card. The combination of Alienware's expert engineering and the world's most powerful GPUs creates an unbeatable gaming experience."

The company's 7500 model will only support a single GeForce GTX 280 GPU, but its flagship Area-51 desktop will feature both a single card option and a dual-SLI configuration. For gamers that want to squeeze as much graphics power from their Alienware systems as they can, the Area-51 ALX provides support for a 3-way SLI configuration.

"Alienware desktop PCs are the perfect vehicle for our new GeForce GTX 280 GPU," said Ujesh Desai, general manger of desktop GPU business at NVIDIA. "We are excited that Alienware's customers will be able to push the graphics and gaming boundaries of their PCs, and experience a whole new level of visual computing." Desai added.

The company's high-end Area-51 ALX desktop has a starting price of $4,599, while the GTX 280-capable 7500 model can be acquired for $1,199 and upwards.
