The GNOME development team, through Matthias Clasen, has the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of GTK+ 3.16.0, a powerful, open-source and cross-platform toolkit used in the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment for creating graphical user interfaces.

GTK+ 3.16.0 arrives today with OpenGL support for rendering windows in both X11 and Wayland display servers, overlay scrollbars for GNOME/GTK+ applications, addition of the GtkGLArea widget for rendering windows with OpenGL, and the addition of a GtkModelButton button that can be used with GAction.

The GtkPopoverMenu subclass for GtkPopover has also been introduced in GTK+ 3.16.0, allowing developers to more easily create menu-like popovers for GNOME/GTK+ applications, as well as the GtkStackSidebar controller for GtkStack. An experimental backend for the Mir display server used in Ubuntu Linux has also been added.

Several bugs have also been squashed in GTK+ 3.16.0

Moreover, GTK+ 3.16.0 fixes an issue with overlay controls being unusable with the High Contrast theme, repairs Clipboard handling issues in Wayland, will now correctly draw insensitive ModelButtons, makes the “selected color” mark not to be drawn in black, and addresses a possible crash with the clipboard.

A “scrolled off” indication has been added, the “Close tab” buttons no longer change the tab height on hover when using the High Contrast theme, a new policy allows scrolling without a visible scrollbar, makes the insensitive active backdrop GtkSwitches look more insensitive when using the High Contrast theme, and makes GtkExpander expandable with High Contrast.

Last but not least, the Swedish, Bulgarian, Basque, Indonesian, Serbian, Chinese (Taiwan), Hungarian, Norwegian bokmal, Bosnian, Turkish, and Japanese language translations have been updated. While GTK+ 3.16.0 will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, you can download the sources right now from Softpedia.
