Video game publisher Take Two announces that its most important recent release, Grand Theft Auto V, has managed to sell more than 34 million units to stores since it was launched on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, even as the video game is getting close to its launch on the current-gen devices from Microsoft and Sony and on the PC.

The news comes as the company has managed to surprise analysts by posting better than expected financial results despite the fact that it has not launched any major titles in the three-month period which ended on September 30.

Strauss Zelnick, the chief executive officer, announced the figure during a call with investors, according to Gamasutra, which means that the publisher has managed to sell every single copy that was delivered to stores, which is an achievement for any title.

The figure does not take into account the copies of GTA V that have been sold via digital stores.

Take Two also says that its online-only sales have been solid, with the biggest contributors being the various titles in the Grand Theft Auto series, the NBA 2K basketball sim franchise, Borderlands 2 and Civilization 5.

GTA Online is also a major new revenue stream for the company, as gamers spend real world money in order to get access to special content.

GTA V is coming to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4

The 34 million figure is being relayed to the public and investors even as Grand Theft Auto V is getting ready to arrive on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on November 18.

The PC version is being delayed to January 27 of next year.

All those who are moving from the last-gen versions to the newly released installments will get access to some interesting exclusive content.

The development team at Rockstar is using the superior computing power of the new platforms to improve the overall gameplay experience and the graphics.

There’s more traffic on the road for gamers to deal with, improved damage systems for character and more foliage.

At the same time, there are new tracks to listen to on the in-game radios as gamers once more explore the open world that Rockstar has created.

The studio is at the moment also working on expanding the scope of the Online mode, which might soon get access to the long awaited Heists update, set to introduce cooperative missions.
