The development team at Rockstar officially announces that it will launch their much-awaited Grand Theft Auto V during the spring of 2013 on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The company also says that pre-orders will be offered on November 5 on both platforms for those who want to get the game early, although the developers have not offered any details on what goodies those who pre-order will get access to.

Sam Houser, who is one of the leaders of Rockstar and who has worked on the franchise since it was created, states, “Grand Theft Auto V builds on everything we’ve learned about open world game design. We can’t wait to share it with fans.”

Once again the team has said that Grand Theft Auto V will take place both in the city of Los Santos and the area around it, ranging from mountains to the ocean, modeled on present-day Southern California.

No other information on what the game will offer in terms of story or content is shared at this time.

With the launch coming in spring 2013, which means May at the latest, Rockstar will soon have to share more information with the fans of the series.

The official announcement does not mention anything about a PC version for Grand Theft Auto V.

One of the community officers of Rockstar adds in the comments for the official announcement: “Hey guys, glad to see so much enthusiasm about the release announcement. For those asking about the PC platform, we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time.”

It’s not clear whether this means that the game will not arrive on the PC or whether the port is just delayed.

The announcement also makes no mention of the Wii U from Nintendo.
