The development team at Rockstar working on Grand Theft Auto V says that the soundtrack it is creating for the game is larger than for any other title they have worked on and will surprise players with both its scope and its depth.

Ivan Pavlovich, who oversees the music side of the game, is quoted by NeoGAF as saying that “We have 15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score. It's the largest soundtrack that we've done, and the largest score that we've done.”

Rockstar has already said that it wanted GTA V to capture the feeling of Los Angeles and Southern California, and the music is also designed to create a musical landscape that resembles the real city and its unique features.

Rockstar is introducing a pop station for the first time in the series’ history, called Vinewood Boulevard Radio, curated by Stephen Pope and Nate Williams from Wavves.

The Mexican influence is represented via East LOS FM, mixed by Camilo Lara from the Mexican Institute of Sound.

All other stations feature interesting DJs that have long involvements with the style of music they are playing.

Edgar Froese from Tangerine Dream is the main composer for the score and Pavlovich adds, “He was the first name that came to mind. Complimenting his work we have Woody Jackson, who scored Red Dead Redemption and helped score L.A. Noire. Woody's an amazing musician. And the third part of the triangle is Alchemist and Oh No.”

GTA V will be launched on September 17 in all major markets and will be playable on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

The Online mode will be added two weeks later and will allow up to 16 players to inhabit a virtual world and work together or against one another in various modes.
