Video game developer Rockstar, best known for the Grand Theft Auto series, announces that it will sponsor the 2013 Red Hook Criterium Championship Series cycling event, which will launch with the Criterium that takes place at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in New York on Saturday, March 30.

Simon Ramsey, the public relations leader at Rockstar Games, states, “We’re honored to be sponsoring the 2013 Red Hook Criterium Championship Series. We’re thrilled to be able to support the local community through cycling, something that’s close to the hearts of many of us at Rockstar.”

The Red Hook Criterium Championship Series is unsanctioned, which means that road racers from professional teams, specialists coming from track events, bike messengers and even amateurs can take part.

Rockstar is sponsoring the event in order to help the rebuilding effort in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The company will launch GTA V on September 17 of this year.
