Probably all the GTA IV fans are already playing the game on their console of choice, but we should never forget the system
that gave birth to the first Grand Theft Auto title - the personal computers. Even though Rockstar hasn't officially confirmed anything, rumors about an October release date for the game started to be heard quite a while ago. Following the console launch (which is definitely a success), Rockstar should officially confirm the PC version (if it really exists) during the coming weeks.

Until then, we have a Swiss website presenting the Grand Theft Auto IV PC version DVD case, together with a price and, what matters most for all of us: the release date. According to the website, the PC version of Rockstar's title will be made available starting the 30th of November this year. What should normally be a further proof that the date is correct (or, at least, that a PC version is in the works) is the fact that pre-order is available. It remains to see how and if Rockstar responds to this... let's call it "leak". They probably won't be too happy, since the official announcement still has to be made.

However, don't take this date as a sure thing. It could be just an attempt of the website to promote itself or nothing but a misunderstanding. One thing is sure, though: the DVD case presented on the website seems real enough for us to believe it's true. We'll keep an eye on it to see if things change during the following days.

Already considered the Game of the Year, Grand Theft Auto IV has just been released for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles and received numerous 10/10 reviews. The estimated sales for the first week are only somewhere around 6 million and the game is considered to be the title that will save Take 2 from Electronic Arts' acquisition.

It looks fake to me. PC Games won't have PAL/NTSC. Only PC DVD. If you look closely under PC DVD sign, there is PAL sign. Most likely a fake image.

Comment #1.1 by: James Wilson on 16 May 2008, 13:27 GMT

DUH, of course the image is fake. R* hasn't designed the PC cover yet, so how should they get it?

Comment #1.2 by: alex on 26 May 2008, 23:42 GMT

dude pal/ntsc means it is made in europe and GERMANY IS IN EUROPE u dudes need to go back to high school or start reading more....and FYI EVERY freaking game in europe have pal ntsc because the poor bastards didn't get to the US level

Comment #1.3 by: Nic on 28 May 2008, 03:05 GMT

The website is NOT German. It is Swiss. Look at the URL... Germany is .de Switzerland is .ch... They just happen to speak German (as well as other languages) in Switzerland.

Comment #1.4 by: t0nito on 31 May 2008, 13:51 GMT

PCs don't have PAL or NTSC they're the same worldwide, PAL and NTSC are television standards and are only considered when using systems hooked up to TVs. Maybe you're the one who should go back to high school. Be sure you know what you're talking about before telling other people they're wrong.

Comment #1.5 by: stamafia on 01 Jun 2008, 20:04 GMT

this better be true........november 30....

Comment #1.6 by: Rob on 30 Jun 2008, 19:38 GMT

Lol, t0nito, too true man. PC's don't use television standards. Alex really must have been top of his class, haha. And most people would consider PAL to be the superior of the two, considering it has a higher resolution, and thus gives better pictures. So you could say that they never moved up to our level...

Comment #1.7 by: Adam on 06 Jul 2008, 17:19 GMT

You guys all need to relax. Computers have something called a DVD Region. For those of us in North America, we're Region 1 which is necessary for a DVD Rom to be defined as since it controls what content is read in a DVD-Rom. If you're set to another Region (PAL) an NTSC DVD will NOT work in your drive until you redefine it...and you can only do it in Windows 5 times. So, long story short, it DOES matter if it is PAL or NTSC because you will have to redefine your ROM settings and, in doing so, your NTSC DVD's will not work. So it doesn't matter if you're outputting to a TV or not.

Comment #1.8 by: milton on 14 Jul 2008, 18:19 GMT

its not going to happen yet because the games is big and its not going to fit in a DVD so they need to use BLU-RAY but not much people has bluray readers on the PC so its going to take about 2 or 3 years so they can lounch the game... that's what i heard on the internet...

Comment #1.9 by: Rudi on 22 Jul 2008, 08:57 GMT

I hope the release date is true, and for the record GTA 4 for XBOX 360 is in Dual layer DVD Disc, so you dont need BlueRay Disc for this game. And you allways cant use 2 or 3 DVD for PC version.

Comment #1.10 by: Matty on 27 Jul 2008, 11:29 GMT

To the guy who said Europe isn't at American level; GTA is made in Scotland. yes, that is in Europe.

Comment #1.11 by: GalFisk on 29 Jul 2008, 14:31 GMT

Neither PAL/NTSC nor DVD region matters when it comes to PC games - only TV games (as mentioned) need to differentiate between PAL and NTSC, and only DVD video has region encoding, PC DVD has not.

Comment #1.12 by: John on 08 Aug 2008, 20:54 GMT

to the guy who said it won't fit on a DVD : most (new, large size) PC games are on a number of single DVD's, games are installed to your hard drive, they're not played from the disc like a console. Affordable DVD drives dont have the speed to play a game straight from the disc, and that's also why you have to install parts of ps3 games to the hard drive, because Blu-Ray isnt that fast either.

Comment #1.13 by: John Rambo on 11 Aug 2008, 19:24 GMT

The offical date has been released by Rockstar, november 18 in north america, 21 for EU. Finally the time has come, this version will have an expanded multiplayer unique to the pc.

its fake look at the grainy bits underneither the games for windwos and pc dvd they are there because sommet has placed an image over another with adobe photoshop or similar programs and havent cleaned it up.

Comment #6 by: ScarecroW on 07 May 2008, 19:37 GMT reply to this comment

It is a fake image, however the release date they have listed isnt too far off of what has been suggested by Take 2/Rockstar but as stated in the main story their has been no official word about the release as of yet and knowing how Microsoft have been about the consoles getting first dibbs on everything lately and forcing companies to hold back release dates for PC I am wondering if Take 2/Rockstar are just holding their breathe waiting to belt it out like a little kid with a secret that it will be release before Christmas.

Comment #7 by: Gorghor on 10 May 2008, 15:29 GMT reply to this comment

First of all, that's a swiss page, not a german one ;)
Secondly, if you could read german, you would see that they explicitly say that the game hasn't been confirmed for PC yet and that the date may vary just below. The cover is obviously fake.

The big question is, why even bother listing this if there are no garantees.

Note concerning this article: I though the sales for the first week were at an estimated $500 million, not $6 million...

Comment #7.1 by: helyos on 19 May 2008, 09:52 GMT

i think it meant 6 millions copies, not $

Comment #8 by: Dominik on 11 May 2008, 17:17 GMT reply to this comment

The image really is a fake, but I beleive Take2/ Rockstar really are just holding back the release date. Every GTA before was made either for PC, so why shouldn't the best of the GTA be too?

Comment #8.1 by: gubjusaki on 07 Jun 2008, 22:01 GMT

Actualy not every previous installment of gta have been releses on the pc.

Comment #10 by: RX-7 on 15 May 2008, 19:23 GMT reply to this comment

PAL/NTSC versions for pc they exist in europe we get pal and the us has ntsc.

But the image is a fake because it is never displayed at the box of a game you can only find out if you import a game what system it uses but ntsc works on computers here and otherwise except not if you connect an TV to the pc.

Comment #10.1 by: vasilica on 30 May 2008, 08:08 GMT

NTSC/PAL has nothing to do with PC games idiots.

Comment #11 by: bldrgnslyr on 17 May 2008, 06:53 GMT reply to this comment

The case is obviously fake, seeing as though Rockstar hasn't even confirmed the release yet. The people from the website would've just created the image to show that it's for pc. The details given seem true and probable though (being released late this year) because it would follow the tradition of previous GTA games. If/when released I would expect some hefty specs would be needed, (At least a dual-core processor, 1-2-> gig of ram, and a fairly new graphics card, perhaps NVIDIA GeForce 8600gt->) and a chance of it only being available on Vista (ala Halo 2).

Comment #12 by: someperson on 17 May 2008, 11:57 GMT reply to this comment

it says further down:
GTA 4 has not officially been announced for PC by the publisher Take2.

Meh, don't get too worked up. I have my own theories about this aledged "leak", but lets just wait for an official announcement from R*, shall we?

Comment #18 by: Toby on 26 May 2008, 21:38 GMT reply to this comment

Everyone, including the author of this article: What the text(!) under the the tempting picture says reads: Release for PC was not yet confirmed by Take 2! Release Date still open!"
The text is whats more important. Images on pre-order websites are never accurate as they never 100% represent what you are buying, except maybe on e-bay. The image was created (which is easy) to create hype and popularity for their site probably.
It is, however, peculiar that a pre-order seems to be possible. Has anyone actually done a pre-order on that site? Coz that would bind the company to actually provide you with GTA 4 fpr PC if i read their terms and conditions right.

Comment #19 by: Andy on 27 May 2008, 12:33 GMT reply to this comment

I hate gaming consoles. They spoil all the fun especially for a game like this. Those damn controllers couldn't ever bring as much fun and ease of use to playing a game as the PC keyboard. I simply cannot understand why Rockstar Games always chooses to release GTA for gaming consoles first, rather than PCs. And PC gamers always have to wait at least 6 moths more for the PC version of this splendid game.

Comment #19.1 by: dotzek on 30 May 2008, 14:45 GMT

Did you hear about piracy ? :|, buy still i cant wait for a pc version, it will be WAY better than the ps3 or xbox360

Comment #19.2 by: Manchester Utd luva on 30 May 2008, 16:13 GMT

I heard it was coming out october 16th and im pretty sure that is right because i have heard october a couple times before and never any november, but maybe i just dont want to wait that long and am in denial

Comment #20 by: Dogz_Ballz-Ferhat on 31 May 2008, 09:32 GMT reply to this comment

The question is when is GTA4 arriving on PC? Why has it come out on console first before PC. PC gave birth to GTA and now the PC has to wait for GTA4.

You my man arent gonna go far in business, EVER!!! Cant u tell that they're trying to make a buck out of this game? (id say billions to be more precise) but even so, they always did the same thing from what i hear here and there, so why would it be any different now? JUST GET IT IN YOUR HEADS, THEY ARE GOING TO RELEASE IT ON PC AFTER THEY SQUEEZE EVERY SINGLE PENNY OUT OF THE CONSOLE RELEASES...CUZ ON PC ITS NOT GONNA SELL SO WELL, AND CUZ OF THE GLOBAL PIRACY...
P.S. ONE MORE THING, THE DATE IS OCTOBER, AND IF YOU DNT PURCHASE THIS MUST GAME, U WONT HAVE ACCESS TO ONLINE PLAY, PERIOD ;)

Comment #23 by: falloutpc on 02 Jun 2008, 13:46 GMT reply to this comment

Every past version has been later released on the PC. The question is not will it be released on PC but when will it be released. GTA 3,Vice City and San Andreas all took around 7 to 8 months for the PC version so i"m guessing this will follow the same pattern. Late October to November Will probably be the PC version release date. There are a lot of people who play the PC versions so they would be crazy not to release one considering the money they can make. I myself am Getting a new Video card just so i can play GTA 4 and fallout 3 in the fall.

Comment #29 by: skullkrusher on 08 Jun 2008, 05:18 GMT reply to this comment

It will probably be released on PC at some point. However as far as a release date and pre-order goes Duke Nuke 'Em has been on one of the major electronics chain's website a couple of times with a release date and pre-order purchase option even when the official web site says there is NO release date yet...and that's been in development for how many years now??

Believe that there is a PC release when there is one on the shelf and then wait a few months for patches and a price drop...

Comment #30 by: alex on 25 Jun 2008, 10:26 GMT reply to this comment

dont know if someone posted this info before, don't want to read every comment..

it says "Das Spiel GTA 4 für PC ist vom Publisher Take 2 noch nicht bestätigt. Releasedatum noch offen!!" which means GTA 4 isn't confirmed by publisher Take 2, release date unsettled.

Comment #31 by: playerse7en on 27 Jun 2008, 17:03 GMT reply to this comment

i doubt it,because gta iv would require a beast of a pc to run it properly and to think, not everyone has a dual core 2.0 ghz with a 8600 gt and 2gb of ram,so the pc version wouldnt sell much.

Comment #31.1 by: falloutpc on 28 Jun 2008, 20:58 GMT

Not sure if this was a misinformed comment or a joke. Single core has been dead for a while now and Duel core processors are the common place average CPU on the market now and have been around for years and already being replaced by Quad Cores in newer PCs. I had to ditch my old single core rig over a year ago because it just could not play any new 3D games Decently at the time. Average PC gamers are going to have a decent gaming rig because they invest there money on upgrades to play the latest games instead of buying a console. A 2.0 GHz Duel core with a 8600gt and 2 gigs of ram is not a beast of a PC its on the low end in today's terms but would probably play GTA IV on low settings fine. Bottom line is most people who play PC games over console already have a decent duel core gaming rig. Every past PC version of GTA has been released about 8 Months after the console version and millions of PC gamers will buy it when it does.

Comment #32 by: AJ on 29 Jun 2008, 13:11 GMT reply to this comment

Why the hell are we speculating things and hoping for a PC release. There are a lot of good games for PC Gamers from last year as well as this year. COD4, BIOSHOCK, CRYSIS, ASSASSINS CREED to name a few. Even if ROCK* do not release the game on PC this year, PC gamers have alot of good games coming their way. MAFIA 2 would be releasing for PC along with consoles on Oct, 31 2008 which is going to be an even better game than GTA 4. If you are a PC gamer and you have played the above mentioned games (COD 4,etc) you should not be worried about the system requirements of any game on this planet. I feel sorry for all of you who were sucked into buying PS3 or XBOX 360 just for a game. For those of you who are looking forward to Buy PS3 for playing MGS4 (another successful game of the year), I would suggest you practice a little self-restraint as rumour is going around that by end of year 2008 Sony are planning to reduce the price by 200$.

Comment #33 by: zaroba on 05 Jul 2008, 04:10 GMT reply to this comment

lol bldrgnslyr, you call those hefty specs? it was possible to build a pc with better specs then that more then a year ago without spending over $700. today you can easily buy or build a PC with similar specs to that for under $400. not exactly 'hefty', its more like 'standard'

Comment #34 by: matt on 09 Jul 2008, 12:18 GMT reply to this comment

I agree with zaroba. It's really easy to build a cheaper an more powerful gaming-rig than a ps3. Dual cores are standard - quadcores aren't too expensive either. And compared to many computers, the consoles have very low - if not sad - performance.

That I found out as I bought the XBOX360 only to be able to play GTA4. . . . My computer probably cud play two GTA4s at the same time...Not really, but I wouldn't have any problems with the game. Intel QuadCore6600 @ 3.1GHz and a GeForce 8800GT 512mb @ 1950Mhz.

Comment #35 by: Chris on 14 Jul 2008, 15:18 GMT reply to this comment

Lol, blatently fake, shame really because i have wanted that game for along time, :(, :P, it will come out on pc, and the fact that Rockstar Games called it a leak?, just means their holding us in suspence even more, :), and yes, it probably will be for vista only, or they might find a patch for it to be able to play on xp, the graphics i have seen on ps2 and 360, direct x 9 has no chance, AND, GET USED TO VISTA, I HAD TO DO IT, :)!, (get a job)

Comment #38 by: Rolesbon on 03 Aug 2008, 17:18 GMT reply to this comment

Ya,they have sold 6 Million copies in it first week, and they got around $ 500.000.000 , and they always do the same, they release the consoles versions except for pc,so the people buy the consoles ,so its like an AD lets say cuz people from Sony (PS3) or Microsoft (XBOX360) pay them for that,so they release the PC Version after like 1 year,i think this version of GTA is the best by far,so we need a PC version of this game right now!! I wish this version of the game would be released on October or November.

so!!!!!! keep u r fingers crossed and hope for the best

and if u watch gta4 web page closely ull c windows at the bottom that means it will release for pc

Comment #43 by: Daniel on 16 Aug 2008, 18:57 GMT reply to this comment

I can't wait till the PC release, I can't see why PC players allways is kept in the dark... The gaming experiance is much richer on PC and the consoles keeps lagging. Just got home from a friend that bought PS3 just to play GTA IV, and when there is lots of action (cops and stuff) the frame rate drops big time.

For richer game experiance, support PC and stay of the consoles.

PAL, well that makes sense, because the TELEVISIONS in EUROPE are in PAL, its the format, resolution standards and refresh rate. USA is NTSC. so i would say its legit. it is made for PAL television, not NTSC.
