Generally, when you hear of a great title being delayed you think "damn it, it's delayed!" and that's it. No one even stops to think for a second (not at first anyway) that there's a pretty good reason behind that game's delay. More than that, sometimes a video game's delay can do some good too and this is the case with
GTA IV.
Developers
and publishers are looking forward to the winter holidays when people generally... buy stuff. They're all betting on the holiday seasons with their titles and Rockstar was too. However, they all know they're throwing themselves into a blind battle, that can have any possible outcome. There are as many as seven highly anticipated titles scheduled for an Autumn-Winter release this year, making it difficult for the gamer to choose.
Those games are
Bioshock,
Army of Two,
Lair, Haze, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed and of course the PS3's highly anticipated next-gen action game, Heavenly Sword. CVG reckons that "If you can overlook the fact that we might not being playing it for another six months, there's plenty of good news behind Rockstar's shocker GTA IV delay.
For one, it's (hopefully) guaranteed to be a more polished and complete product by the time it's out for release. Secondly you now have a chance to enjoy all these Christmas releases, which might've previously been lost in the GTA carnage..."
And they're oh so right... It's logical really: why throw in one of the most anticipated games out there at the same time with other highly anticipated ones just to see if it wins the battle or not, when you can wait until everything cools down, see gamers raising enough money back up again for the game's release, all this while you, the developer, can take your time polishing up whatever there is left for polishing, ensuring that your product wasn't rushed at all (always a noticeable aspect when speaking of video games)?
