Yes, you can fly, yes, girlfriends are back and yes, the city is big

With GTA IV Debut Trailer released, a thousand questions began to arise. "Did it seem to you like Liberty City was an authentically sized city? A problem that I had with San Andreas was that you could drive to a coast in two minutes. Do you think it will be different this time?" (via Kotaku). And isn't it true? Game Informer's Andrew Reiner and Rockstar vice president Dan Houser tried to shed some light, in an interview with GTAIV.net: "Great question. In terms of scale, it definitely feels more like a realistic city. It feels you are traversing New York City. As you've seen in the trailer, there are a number of ways to traverse this massive area."

Other questions concerned female characters, the ability to take on an aircraft, or to perform purchases. Yes, girlfriends are back (and didn't you know it?), while if flying is involved, the only aircrafts available are helicopters - the city is big, no doubt about it, but not as big as to fly an airplane from point A to point B: "this is just one city and a plane really doesn't fit into that very well for gameplay," said one interviewee.

Purchasing of properties will more than likely be different with GTA IV, as Dan Houser points out that "this isn't a game of real estate, or from rags to riches." Don't think that if we're not posting every question and answer, the interview isn't worth reading. Every answer to every question is more than relevant, so if you are a GTA series fan, I suggest you check out the whole interview. More details on GTAIV are expected on the verge of its launch and probably earlier, so we'll keep our ears to the ground to give you all the juicy stuff.
