Rockstar Games confirms quite a few new details about the character and mission transfer process that will be available for owners of Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS3 or Xbox 360 that upgrade to the upcoming PS4, Xbox One, or PC versions.

GTA 5 appeared for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms back in September of 2013 and tens of millions of fans flocked to experience the game on those old consoles, largely since Rockstar was staying silent about the chances of seeing GTA 5 appear on other platforms like PC, PS4, or Xbox One.

During E3 2014 this summer, the inevitable happened and the large developer confirmed that GTA 5 was making its way to more platforms, in the form of PS4 and Xbox One this November, and PC in early January.

More info about content transfer is available

After already confirming that returning fans will have plenty of surprises in the new versions of the game, Rockstar now reveals on the official newswire some details on the content transfer process that's offered to existing owners of GTA 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

More specifically, in case you forgot, those who play GTA 5 on the older consoles have the opportunity to migrate their character and multiplayer content to one of the game's new versions, such as PS4, Xbox One, or PC.

The process is achieved through Rockstar's own Social Club service, but the company emphasizes that it can only be done once. Those who keep playing on their characters on the PS3 or Xbox 360 after the process is complete won't see their progress record.

"You will only be able to transfer your character once. After transferring your character to PS4, Xbox One or PC, you can continue playing with him/her on your PS3 or Xbox 360 but the progress you make while playing is not shared to the character you transferred to your new version," the studio explains.

Jobs made by players can also be migrated

The transfer process also covers things like jobs made with the Creator tool but some other elements, such as leaderboards can't make the jump to the new platforms.

"Any Jobs you’ve published in GTA Online using the Creator tool will transfer over so that you and others can continue playing them on the new platforms. Please be aware however that Leaderboards, Snapmatics, Playlists and bookmarks are unique to the console generation you made them on so those will not carry over," the studio adds.

GTA 5 launches on PS4 and Xbox One on November 18, and should debut for PC in January, 2015.
