Will announce the winners on February 16

The GSM Association announced today the nominees for the 15th Annual Global Mobile Awards, and revealed that it would present the winners of the competition on Tuesday, February 16th. According to GSMA, the winners will be announced by technophile Stephen Fry at the main conference auditorium at the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, and the list of nominees and categories can be seen online via this web page.

[ADMARk=1]“The GSMA would like to congratulate all those who have been nominated in this year’s Global Mobile Awards,” said Michael O’Hara, chief marketing officer at the GSMA. “Our judging panel certainly had their work cut out – the 105 nominees from across 18 categories have been chosen from more than 500 high quality entries, and to be one of the shortlisted companies is a fantastic achievement. We look forward to recognising and celebrating the innovation, ingenuity and creativity of our winners at the afternoon awards presentation and evening celebration party in Barcelona next month.”

The categories included in the Global Mobile Awards are Mobile Marketing, Best Mobile Contribution to Social & Economic Development, the Green Mobile Awards and Mobile Entertainment. The last category also includes awards for games, music and video, advertising and social networking, the GSMA reported. There will be three high-profile awards for the year announced in Barcelona, including Best Mobile Handset, the GSMA Chairman’s Award and Mobile Industry Personality of the Year. The Global Mobile Awards also includes the global final of the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix competition, which is also set to take place at the Mobile World Congress this year, GSMA indicated.

The Best Mobile Handset or Device category, which might be of great interest to a lot of mobile phone users out there, has as nominees the Blackberry Bold 9700 Smartphone from Research in Motion, the Samsung Star (S5230) (Toco Lite in the UK) from Samsung Electronics, the HTC Hero from the Taiwan-based HTC Corporation, the Huawei U8220 (T-Mobile Pulse) from Huawei Technologies, as well as the Samsung I8910 HD or OMNIA HD (GT-I8910) from Samsung Electronics. The Asia Mobile Award Winner is Nokia N97 Mini, GSMA states. One might also want to know that the Novatel Wireless MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot is one of the nominees in the Best Mobile Connected Device (non-handsets) category.
