The first shipments of GSLO’s Volt Solar Chargers for iPhone are en route to the United States, said the New Orleans company whose efforts concentrate on capturing the most potentially profitable American solar technology.

An official report from GSLO this week said the shipment’s arrival represents the culmination of months of work by GoSolarUSA to bring the technology to the U.S customers.

A detachable accessory designed to extend the iPhone’s battery life using a built-in solar panel and a 1500 mAh rechargeable battery, the Volt was developed by a Chinese company called Xiamen Solar Electronics (XSE).

To GSLO’s knowledge, the Volt is the only iPhone battery pack capable of recharging the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 with the same device.

“We couldn’t be more pleased that the Volt is on its way to America at last,” said GSLO President and CEO Tyson Rohde.

“I’ve received the initial shipment’s DHL tracking number, and we expect it to arrive in the next couple of weeks. Based on the interest we’ve received in the device over the past few months, this first shipment will not last long,” Rohde said.

In January, GSLO posted a Volt waiting list and giveaway on its website encouraging folks to sign up to be notified first when the units would arrive in North America.

The company plans to give away 100 Volt Solar Chargers to randomly selected people who sign up for the device's waiting list, to further encourage potential customers.

Those interested can sign up for GoSolarUSA’s Volt waiting list and giveaway here.

“With the first Volt units soon to arrive, we plan to close the waiting list shortly and announce the winners of our Volt giveaway,” Rohde said. “Anyone waiting until the last minute to sign up would be wise to do so quickly.”
