GRID Autorsport might only launch on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC, but the development team at Codemasters says that they do have plans to offer human-like personalities for Artificial Intelligence-powered opponents.

Toby Evan-Jones, one of the leading producers working on the new title, tells VG247 that, “I feel that AI is an area that differentiates us from other racing games. A huge amount of effort has gone into making the other racers feel human, so it never feels as though you’re just racing against a procession of cars all following the same racing line.”

Improved AI-powered racers have been some of the main selling points for Forza 5, the title that launched at the same time as the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Turn 10 has said that it has used the cloud computing tech of the company in order to hold profiles for all human racers and then use them to populate other events.

The developer from Codemasters adds, “Each AI has up to 60 individual characteristics that determines how aggressive they are, how likely they are to take risks, how well they can handle different parts of a track etc. The way they learn each track is very similar to how a human would learn it.”

Basically, the company says that it is allowing the AI to race through all the tracks thousands of times in order to learn more about the best placement and the moments when they need to accelerate in order to gain the best racing line.

GRID Autosport will have to face tough competition from Forza 5, Gran Turismo 6 from Polyphony Digital, as well as the upcoming Ubisoft-made The Crew and the delayed DriveClub from Sony.

The racing experience will include 100 tracks that gamers can race on and the list of cars that will be included has not yet been made public, although it is set to have the best vehicles that the series has simulated so far.

Codemasters says that it is bringing back the in-car cockpit camera for this installment of the title and that it has now included a new disciplines mechanic in order to make sure that players get the kind of handling that they want.

GRID Autosport will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft on June 24 in the United States and three days later in Europe.
