The rumors concerning a potential Google Phone are continuously spreading on the Internet and today, they are somehow becoming reality. As I have said, somehow, because the Mountain View company granted a new patent that reveals a SMS technology but it's not quite clear if Google wants to implement it into a handheld device. The folks from Pocket-Lint said the new patent can be used for both Google Phone and Google Checkout because it would help certain consumers buy stuff from the online shopping service straight from their phones. The patent was filed on February 28, 2006 and was granted on August 30, 2007.

"A computer-implemented method of effectuating an electronic on-line payment includes receiving at a computer server system a text message from a payor containing a payment request representing a payment amount sent by a payor device operating independently of the computer server system, determining a payment amount associated with the text message and debiting a payor account for an amount corresponding to the amount of the payment request, and crediting an account of a payee that is independent of the computer server system," the description of the patent reads.

Last week, the entire Internet was talking about a potential Google Phone since numerous signs were supporting the rumors. First, it was only an operating system that could be bundled into the handheld device but, as time passed by, it all turned into mobile phone. It seems like Google would be interested in developing a special operating system, based on Linux, that could offer instant access to the mobile services provided by the Mountain View giant.

Some time ago, it was rumored that Google prepares a mobile phone but at that time, the search company quickly denied them. Google's representatives said that Google is a software company and it will remain so as long as it is not interested in hardware products.
