The exclusive game delivered a stunning experience

Naughty Dog has already impressed many gamers with a lot of great titles, from Crash Bandicoot on the PSone, to Jak and Daxter on the PS2 or the Uncharted series on the PS3.

Fortunately for gamers, the studio isn't resting on its laurels and has created a second internal team with the goal of making a survival action game that emphasized a great story and gameplay over current video game tropes.

The result is The Last of Us, the best PS3 exclusive of the year.

Survival games have mostly gone into the horror direction, opting to scare players and give them very little resources to work with, while battling really powerful enemies.

The Last of Us, however, decided to take a more action-oriented route. While protagonists Joel and Ellie don't possess any sort of superpowers, except the echo mode, they can use weapons, tools, and items to take out the deadly infected and the fierce clickers.

This makes the world of the game pretty believable, as you can always craft new things to help you survive for as long as possible.

Besides the amazing gameplay, the story explores a great relationship between Joel and Ellie, and there were plenty of stunning moments that touched practically anyone who played the PS3 game, either with its prologue, its ending, or the many different sequences in-between.

Naughty Dog could have limited itself to the great single-player experience and The Last of Us would've been a big success, but the studio also managed to fit in a great multiplayer mode that further fleshed out the game's universe, showing the two main warring factions as they fight for survival.

The studio continues to focus on the game even now, after many months since its debut for the PS3, as the special Left Behind DLC promises to expand on Ellie's life before she met Joel.
