Gretech announced the release of a major version for their GOM Media Player. However, the developer did not add much to the new revision, 2.1.40, as the focus was clearly on improving and correcting various faults in the application.

Modifications include the possibility to disable the splash screen popping up when closing the player. Also new is the LAV Audio Decoder entry added to the Disabled Filters List.

Improvements touch on the built-in MP4 and AVI source filters. The problem with the former was that MOV files recorded with Canon and Fujifilm cameras were played with no sound, under default settings; in the case of the latter, audio would not be played correctly on some files that were composed of multiple indexes.

On the same note, playback for extremely large files, such as AVI, MKV, WMV, ASF, MP4, OGG and TS, should now be better.

The complete list of modifications is available here.
