GNOME Shell, a user interface that provides functions for the GNOME desktop environment, has just received a new update and is now at version 3.12.1.

The GNOME development is running smoothly and the first update for the 3.12.x branch has arrived. Surprisingly, it features more changes than you would have expected, given the fact that the big release of the new branch was just a couple of weeks ago.

The GNOME Shell package is one of the first things a user sees and it's probably the defining feature of the GNOME 3 desktop environment. This means that most of the changes and improvements to this package will be easily observable by the users.

According to the changelog, the currently focused app icon is now viewable, the language support has been improved in the location menu, the HiDPI support has been improved, some bad antialiasing on panel menu buttons has been fixed, the location menu is no longer hidden, the IM candidate window is no longer obscuring the current text, and struts are no longer extended to the edge of the screen.

A changelog featuring a complete list of updates and improvements can be found in the official announcement. Download GNOME Shell 3.12.1 right now from Softpedia.
