Simon Schneegans had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability of version 0.6 of his GNOME-Pie application, an open-source utility that can be used as an app launcher on various desktop environments, including GNOME and Unity.

GNOME-Pie 0.6 appears to be a major update that introduces numerous new features, such as support for half an quarter pies, support for selecting the desired shape per pie, support for automatically generation of shapes per pie, and a colorful and dynamic icon.

Moreover, the software is now compatible with several dock-like applications, including elementary OS' Plank, Ubuntu's Unity Launcher, and the universal Docky. Several existing GNOME-Pie themes have been updated as well, and a brand-new theme was introduced, called Simple and designed for the new half-pie layout.

"A new version of Gnome-Pie has been released today! Actually two versions have been released: 0.6.0 and shortly afterwards 0.6.1 which fixes issue #73," says Simon Schneegans in the release announcement. "There are plenty of bug fixes and many new features!"

You can install GNOME-Pie right now on Ubuntu

Users of Ubuntu and its flavors can install the GNOME-Pie 0.6 software today via Simon Schneegans' PPA (Personal Package Archive). To do that, open a terminal window and run or copy/paste the following lines of code. The app is compatible with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 14.10, and 15.04.
