14 DAY TRIAL // The GNOME Project has announced that the first Beta release of the upcoming GDM (GNOME Display Manager) 3.12 login manager for the GNOME desktop environment is available for download and testing. It is an unstable release that mostly fixes bugs discovered in previous versions.
First of all, we should mention that the GNOME Display Manager 3.12 Beta 1 release brings many code cleanups and fixes several memory leaks that were discovered in previous builds. Second of all, it fixes compilation issues for the FreeBSD operating system and updates numerous translations.
Furthermore, this first Beta release of GDM 3.12 changes the way dconf settings are used, supports logging on systems without systemd, outputs human-readable error messages when invoked wrong, and logs X.Org Server messages to systemd journal.
GNOME Display Manager 3.12 Beta 1 is now part of the recently released GNOME 3.12 desktop environment. Therefore, if you want to test it, you’ll need to compile the sources using the JHBuild tool.
