14 DAY TRIAL // The first point release of the acclaimed GNOME 3.16 desktop environment is here, bringing dozens of updated core components and applications, among which a major update to the GNOME Builder IDE.
We wrote about the release of the powerful, next-generation GNOME Builder 3.16 integrated development environment (IDE) last month, along with the announcement for the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment.
GNOME Builder 3.16.1 is the first maintenance release of the software and comes today with over 300 changes, including dozens of new features as well as multiple bug fixes and general improvements.
"While most projects are focused on improving stability for 3.16.1, Builder is quickly adding the features you need. This is only possible because we are still an early preview application" was stated in the announcement.
Here's what is new in GNOME Builder 3.16.1
According to the release notes, GNOME Builder 3.16.1 improves handling of drafts and autotools builders, introduces an all-new incremental semantic syntax highlighting engine, and adds symbols navigator for C++ and C files.
The project tree saw various improvements, including file manager integration, support for opening files in external apps based on content-type, and support for creating folders and files.
Furthermore, semantic highlighting has been added for C++ and C using Clang AST, build warnings are now highlighted in squiggly yellow lines, the dark theme saw various improvements, as well as the style scheme for C and C++ languages.
In addition to the above, GNOME Builder 3.16.1 comes with better support for the FreeBSD and OpenBSD operating systems, adds split support for the HTML view mode, supports editing of "application/x-php" files, and adds a new symbolic icon.
Last but not least, the scroll-offset and VIM mode components got various improvements, Git clone support has been integrated in the New Project dialog, and the application now supports extraction of CFLAGS from non-recursive, out-of-tree automake files. Download GNOME Builder 3.16.1.
