The GNOME developers are still preparing for the release of the second milestone towards the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, due for release on September 23, 2015.

Softpedia reported the release of the most important core components that would be distributed as part of GNOME 3.17.2, but today we want to tell you more about some of the new features implemented in the GNOME Boxes virtualization software.

GNOME Boxes 3.17.2 was released on May 28, and it now includes an all-new libosinfo API that provides express installation for the Fedora 21 and 22 Linux operating systems. Also, each new virtual machine now gets 2GB RAM by default.

Furthermore, the software now displays system notifications when the installation of an operating system is completed, which will be stacked up vertically instead of collecting them in a single location obstructing one another.

GNOME Boxes' user interface has received some attention too

In addition to the changes mentioned above, the GNOME Boxes 3.17.2 software comes with a slightly modified user interface where the "Delete" button from the Selection bar has been moved to the end and the "Properties" button removed.

Also, the "Delete" button now has a destructive theme applied to it. GNOME Boxes now searches for the bridge.conf file in the /etc/qemu-kvm folder, adapts to any change of the GTK+ Vala API, and asynchronously sets up non-default sources at startup.

Last but not least, GNOME Boxes now requires Vala 0.28.0.16 or later and libosinfo 0.2.12 or higher. The Indonesian, Turkish, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Slovak language translations have been updated.

You can download GNOME Boxes 3.17.2 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, and it includes unresolved issues. Thus, we don't recommend using it in production environments.
