The development cycle for GNOME 3.16 continues these days with the second Beta version. As such, the GNOME Boxes software got updated to version 3.16 Beta 2, bringing a number of improvements, updated translations, and bug fixes.

According to the changelog, GNOME Boxes 3.16 Beta 2 beautifies the USB devices list, resource graphs, and snapshots list areas. It introduces a user-friendly 'no snapshots' view, no longer presents users with the useless 'Open in new window' option if the software already has its own window, and marks several UI strings for translation.

In this release, there’s no need for users to store product keys in separate files and paste these keys every time they create a new Windows virtual machine, as the GNOME Boxes 3.16 Beta 2 introduces a cache express install toggle with product key, username, and password for every media.

Some SPICE connection issues remain unsolved in this release

GNOME Boxes 3.16 Beta 2 can now connect to the SPICE display of the local libvirt via a file descriptor. However, users are advised that this won’t fix the issue of SPICE connection being exposed to other users on the host. In order to ensure that both the filename and hostname are visible, the development team ellipsized the URL in the middle.

Among the bugs that have been addressed in GNOME Boxes 3.16 Beta 2, we can mention various label alignments, some user interface (UI) strings, invisible separators in menus, warnings and criticals on console, and an issue with the main window, which will no longer remain in a blank state when launching new windows.

Last but not least, several translations have been updated and others added, including Brazilian Portuguese, Hungarian, Galician, Chinese (Taiwan), Spanish, Hebrew, French, Slovenian, Russian, Kazakh, Ukrainian, Slovak, as well as Greek.
