GNOME 3 has been out for a while now and it certainly got a lot of attention in the Linux world. Some love it, some hate it, but if you haven't been able to see it for yourself, though you've been meaning to, this is your chance.

GNOME has released live images, based on both Fedora and OpenSuSE, that feature Gnome 3 in its purest form. These images can be burned on CDs, DVDs, or you can simply use an USB drive.

"For the release of GNOME 3.0 we've released live USB and CD images based on Fedora and openSUSE," GNOME announced.

You can use the GNOME 3 live images to get a feel of the new desktop environment, developed and designed from scratch, and see how you like it for yourself, regardless of all the online talk.

While GNOME 3 already ships with several Linux distros, Fedora 15 for example, if you want an unaltered experience, you're probably best off with the GNOME-released builds.

That said, the GNOME team is also looking for people to make more of these live images, for development releases such as GNOME 3.1 and the stable GNOME 3.2 when it becomes available.

"I'd like one or more volunteers to make such images available for the various development and final release of GNOME 3.2," GNOME's announcement read.

"Anyone with experience with OBS / Fedora equivalent or willing to get this experience please contact the release team at [email protected]," it said.

"Note: Just looking for anyone with packaging + image making experience. It does not matter if you're already involved within GNOME; git access to update gnome3.org can easily be setup," it added.

If you have some experience customizing Linux distros, like GNOME 3 and want to help out the GNOME project, this is your chance to shine.
