The GNOME 3.8 desktop environment has been officially released on March 27, 2013, and it brought lots of nice features.

Among them, we can mention Python 3 porting, a port of GNOME Shell to use XI2, and much more.

One of the unknown features of GNOME 3.8 is the ability to easily connect to ownCloud accounts via the GNOME Online Accounts application found in the Settings panel.

Once you enable your ownCloud account (hit the Windows key or the Activities button, and type "online" – without quotes), you will be able to access your files, contacts and calendars from within GNOME.

Moreover, users should know that their ownCloud contacts and calendars could be accessed via CardDAV and CalDAV, from their respective tabs in Evolution.

Your ownCloud files will be displayed as volumes via WebDAV in GtkFileChooser and/or Nautilus.
